New York Iota is proud to congratulate current Alumni and Volunteer Corporation (AVC) President and New York Iota alumnus Sean Murphy ’16 on being named the 2025 Sigma Phi Epsilon Volunteer of the Year for New York District 2 by our national headquarters in Richmond, Virginia.

This honor recognizes exceptional dedication, leadership, and impact by SigEp volunteers. Sean’s recognition marks the third national award our AVC has received in the past year and the third consecutive year that a member of our AVC Board has earned national recognition.

Sean has volunteered with New York Iota since 2017, just one year after graduating from SUNY Fredonia. During his time as a volunteer, he has held several leadership positions, including serving two separate terms as Chapter Counselor. He currently serves as AVC President, where he continues to provide leadership and support to the chapter and its undergraduate members.

Sean’s commitment to SigEp extends beyond New York Iota. He also serves on the Alumni and Volunteer Corporation Board for Massachusetts Theta at Babson College, where he serves as Communications Mentor. He is grateful for the opportunity to support another SigEp chapter and for the warm welcome he has received from the Massachusetts Theta volunteers.

In addition to his volunteer work, Sean is a proud member of SigEp’s NUTS! McAuliffe Society and was recently selected to serve on SigEp’s Board of Governors.

Professionally, Sean has worked in the media industry since graduating from SUNY Fredonia and currently resides in the Buffalo area with his wife, Sara, and their daughter, Suzie, whom they welcomed earlier this year. Sean credits Sara for her constant love and support and for being an important part of his ability to give back to SigEp and New York Iota.

Volunteers like Sean are a major part of what makes New York Iota successful. We are especially proud to be the only Greek organization on the Fredonia campus with a dedicated volunteer board committed to supporting our undergraduate members and the future of our chapter.

Our chapter is always looking for volunteers who are interested in giving back. If you’re interested in volunteering or learning more about how you can support New York Iota, click the link below and select New York Iota.
