The New York Iota Chapter of Sigma Phi Epsilon at SUNY Fredonia recently completed its 24th annual Tree Trot, a holiday tradition that combines endurance and charity. The brothers carried a Christmas tree on foot from Fredonia’s campus to Buffalo, covering more than 40 miles. With the help of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Erie, Niagara, and the Southern Tier, they were able to identify a family in need and promote the event. This year’s effort raised over $1,200 for Big Brothers Big Sisters of America.
The Tree Trot has been a hallmark event for the chapter for more than two decades. Members take turns running the tree relay-style, overcoming cold weather and challenging conditions to deliver both holiday cheer and tangible support to the community. Funds raised during the event came from students, alumni, local businesses, and community supporters.
This year’s proceeds will help Big Brothers Big Sisters of America continue its mission to mentor and empower youth. The family who received the tree was also given a brighter holiday season, thanks to the fraternity’s dedication.
The Tree Trot exemplifies the chapter’s commitment to service and tradition. With the support of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Erie, Niagara, and the Southern Tier, the brothers were able to expand the event’s reach and impact. Their efforts continue to make a difference for those in need while bringing their campus and community together during the holidays.
